On June 20, 2008, then presidential candidate Barack Obama said he was NOT going to lift the ban on oil.
Months later he basically said, “well maybe, not really. Oh wait, let’s wait and see.”
Just days ago, Obama said he was going to lift the ban on oil drilling…kinda.
According to the administration, the east coast, parts of the Gulf of Mexico and some sections of Alaska are new proposed regions for oil drilling.
Conversely, most of Alaska and the west coast are regions the United States government is trying to protect.
According to CNN’s John King, here are the current drilling statistics:
• 39 million to 63 million barrels available right now (good for 5-8 years)
• It would take about 4-12 years for fuel production
• Wouldn’t change gas prices
• Huge impact on Jobs
• Royalties would emerge after the recession
While the left side is making significant efforts to become more bipartisan, the right side is telling them, “This is not enough.”
Calm down you elephants. While only drilling in the Gulf of Mexico isn’t enough, at least the democrats are considering the issue.
Relying on the Middle East (the same region that wants us to go to hell with gasoline underwear on) to help with oil distribution isn’t conducive to what the U.S. is trying to accomplish.
However, what people need to realize is that certain plans like lifting the oil ban and the health care bill wont take an immediate effect.
Too many people are trying to pull Obama different directions. See, Obama is a crowd pleaser. This isn’t bad, just taxing. It’s what I call flip-flopping.
As Editor-in-Chief of student publication, I understand how to be a leader. Therefore, I’m not posting this as a negative. The decisions I’ve made in the recent month have mirrored Obama’s actions.
Being a politician is just as important as being a leader when holding an important spot.
But “holding to your guns is the most important”. Two very important colleagues of mine told me this.
Obama now I am telling you the same—not as a man who doesn’t have this issue—but as a man who feels the strain and wants to help you.
After all, I want to be where you are one day. Let’s help each other.
