Moral Responsibility, mishandled

In my most recent post, I addressed the bullies that committed the heinous crimes of killing of 15-year-old Phoebe Prince and 13-year-old Jon Carmichael.

My attacks on the teenagers that killed these children are worthy and understandable. However, like I alluded to towards the end of the blog, it’s not the bullies’ entire fault.

I blame their peers that sat around and didn’t feel the urge to act. I blame the parents of the peers that saw these ugly acts. I blame the parents of the bullies. I blame the teachers. I blame the principal. I blame the school district.

What of Phoebe and Jon’s friends?

It has been recently reported that they made statements to their respective parents and teachers. However, do you think you did enough? I think not.

Teachers—your role in this matter can never be underestimated. You have gone to college, hopefully, to teach tomorrow’s future to be leaders. What teachers you are. The classic cliché, “a few bad apples can ruin the whole bunch,” cannot be any clearer than this particular moment in history. While not all teachers are guilty of these crimes, the teachers that turned the other cheek to these teenage suicides—this is my statement to you:

You are failures. Not only as a teacher, but also as a human being. You stood there and did absolutely nothing. Some of you must and probably have kids. What if that happened to your child? What would you do? You have a morale obligation to resign from you position.

For the principle and school district, you people are a piece of crap on a whole other level. You release statements saying that you have expelled several students for unclear irresponsible acts. However, what is clear now is none of the nine children charged with the death of Phoebe Prince have been expelled, according to CNN.

At least the nine students voluntarily removed themselves from the school. What’s ironic is that they removed themselves from the high school because they were in fear of being harassed.

Overall the lack of leadership has greatly affected young peoples’ lives. How can all of the individuals involved go about their daily lives knowing that something could’ve been done?

I couldn’t.
